1) What qualities did Sinclair believe a person must have to succeed in Packingtown?
-To succeed in Packingtown one must be the kind of person to tell tales and spie upon there fellow workers, a person who succeeded in Packingtown was a person who was sent to Jurgis's
father by the Boss.
2)According to the passage, what is the plant owner's main goal.
- The plant owners main goal was to get money, it was to squeeze out as much money as he possibly could out of his operations by getting as much work as he possibly could out of his workers.
3) What does Sinclair mean when he says, "...there was no place in it where a man counted for anything against a dollar....?"
-He meant that in Packingtown all of the men were put to work and the owner just wanted money, all he cared about was money and no worker was worth anything other than the
money that he could generate for the Boss. There was no generosity or ability to see any usefulness in any worker other than their ability to work and make money.
When it was published, The Jungle was so shocking that it launched a
government investigation of the meatpacking industry. The investigation
eventually led to the establishment of laws regulating the industry.
-One of these laws is The Federal Meat Inspection Act of 1906, A U.S Congress Act to ensure that meat and meat products are slaughtered and processed under sanitary conditions.
-The founding of The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was also an event that took place to combat all of the measly-conditioned plants who's owners were over-working/mistreating workers and producing fowl, bad meat and meat products in their unsanitary factories.
- The USDA Inspection Of Poultry Act was added in 1957, stating the same conditions for poultry.
-The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act,
authorizes The FDA to inspect all livestock and poultry species not listed in the FMIA
or PPIA ( Venison/Buffalo).

Maxim Gun
The Maxim gun was the first recoil-operated machine gun to be made and it fired 500 rounds a minute. It was invented in 1884 by Sir Hiriam Stevens Maxim, an American born, British inventor. The gun was first exhibited to Henry Morton Stanley as a display of the gun and a friendly gesture towards him, Stanley decided to take the overly- powerful gun with him on the Emin Pasha Releif Expedition and it was often used just to sate off Natives. The gun was soon developed or given to many strong armies and was used in many wars and battles up until the 1950's. It was capable of easily killing hundreds or even thousands. Later on stronger variants of the gun were created and eventually new technology was developed. The maxim gun comprised the worlds fist recoil-operated machine gun and was extremely deadly to some, without the invention of The Maxim Gun the worlds gun technology would be incredibly different. The Maxim Gun led to other technology that is used in many countries and by many people everyday.
